About Laura, founder of Plant Embassy.com

Like many people I have always admired nature, especially flowers and junglely foliage.
As a child growing up in northern Mexico I used to love looking at (and playing with!) my mum and grandma’s plants and flowers.
Even though my mum´s garden was only a small area at the font of the house, she managed to have flowers almost year-round. I enjoyed watching her sowing the seeds she collected and started to fantasise about having my own “flowers” one day.
As a young adult I moved to the UK and my appreciation for gardening completely exploded! there seemed to be no limit to the stunning plants you could grow and everything everywhere was so green.
My mind was truly blown as, to me, just walking down a regular street and looking at people´s front gardens felt like a visit to a botanical garden, you just don´t see this where I grew up as the weather is tough and very hot.
When I finally got a garden of my own in London, I swiftly put into work my big plans for transforming the “dump” outside into a stunning garden. Out came the rubble and weeds and in came the roses and the lavenders and the grasses and the evergreens.
Happy days!
But I soon realised that there was a HUGE problem…
I wasn´t able to spend much time in the garden as the weather was just too cold for me, even in summer!
Having grown up in an extremely hot place meant that I struggled to acclimatise and was freezing all the time, even in summer. I started to retreat inside. The garden suffered as a result and, even though it was much nicer than before, it fell way short of my initial expectations.
Not the magical and fulfilling experience I had pictured!
Frustrated, I turned my attention elsewhere as I discovered houseplants and indoor gardening.
I was lucky to experience the beginning of the indoor plant explosion. Shops and garden centres started to offer more and more houseplants, and the prices even came down over the years.
At the start I managed to kill pretty much every new addition. Smothered by love, of course. Eventually more plants started to survive, and my collection began to expand to all corners of the house (much to the annoyance of my kids).
Over the years, research became knowledge and practice became experience. Even though I still manage to lose a plant sometimes, I have a nice collection that are relaxing and invigorating at the same time.
This passion of many years has brought me here, where I hope to share my and other’s experience and serve as an ambassador for houseplants big and small so that we all benefit from their therapeutic and stylish benefits.
